Programs

Hudson Memorial Preschool offers programs for infants, toddlers and preschoolers. We also offer an extended day option, a summer program and enrichment classes.  All programs strive to foster the individual development of each child within its care.

The Infant Program

Wonderful pre-school memories start in our infant room.

Our babies are cared for by friendly, enthusiastic, and responsive caregivers - in a calm, soothing, happy environment. Their daily needs are addressed with smiles and frequent eye contact. Loving interaction between baby and caregiver is given during diaper changes, feedings, rest time, and playtime.

Babies are talked to about what they are seeing and experiencing, thus, encouraging their vocabulary development. Songs are frequently sung and soothing music is played. The children are taken outside each day, as the teachers stroll them on our preschool campus. There is plenty of cuddle time and babies are given plenty of individualized attention.

Parents are kept up to date with a daily sheet that reports feeding times/amounts, diaper changes, nap times, and activities that occurred each day. The staff is responsive to each parent’s concerns and suggestions and baby’s achievements are joyfully shared.

Our room is a relaxing atmosphere with cribs, age appropriate toys, bouncers, high chairs and a comfy rocking chair. Children have their own cubby for personal items. There is adequate space for the staff to sit on the floor with baby during play. Your child’s happiness and comfort is our first priority as we provide you with a safe and secure program.

The Toddler Program

In the Toddler Classroom the children are introduced to a class routine. The routine is flexible and is adjusted to meet the needs of the toddlers. They begin to eat and play at the same time. This schedule allows predictability and a feeling of security among the toddlers.

The children are encouraged to play cooperatively with their peers and the teachers continuously praise and model appropriate behavior. The students are nurtured and comforted throughout the day.

This nurturing environment provides the structure that allows the students to grow and learn, while feeling safe and comfortable. Students are given daily opportunities to explore and learn through age appropriate toys and projects. Children in the Toddler Classroom are encouraged to try to use their words to express their needs and wants. The activities in the Toddler classroom are developed to create learning experiences and social experiences through play, art, and activities. A daily sheet is sent home to let parents know when the child was changed throughout the day and what they ate.

The Two Year Olds Program

The two-year-old room promotes independence through child centered and teacher directed activities throughout the day. Self-help skills, such as, eating skills, potty training, hand washing, and independently cleaning up are among the skills taught in this room. Each child is sent home with a daily sheet that explains toileting, eating, and rest time.

The Two-Year-Olds Program introduces students to circle time activities, including, weather, counting, story time, and songs. The children enjoy playground time with their friends, discovering the world around them. The age appropriate activities in this classroom promote taking turns, cooperating, sharing, and expressing feelings in an appropriate manner.

The Three Year Olds Program

A child’s feeling of independence and social interaction with others is what the three year old room is all about. Our program revolves around the children learning to help themselves and getting along with others.

During the course of the day, children are encouraged to make choices for themselves, cooperate with others as well as listen and follow directions. The classroom teachers lead the children in small and large group activities, such as movement, read-a-loud stories, circle time, playground  and art activities. The children are encouraged to make friends, share and communicate with their classmates. The children are also prompted to use the bathroom on their own, although assistance is given if necessary.

The Four Year Olds Program

What makes pre-school fun? What makes a child want to learn? It is a four-year-old program like ours. Our safe and enriching program focuses on all aspects of creative learning. Hands-on activities include nutrition, cooking, holidays, dinosaurs and safety, to name just a few.

The four year olds rotate to a variety of interest areas, which offer items to help stimulate young imaginative minds. Patterns, graphing, simple math and science activities are included in the weekly program.

Music, movement, and playground times are a favorite part of each day. The children’s' art is proudly displayed around the room. Fine motor skills are used daily as they participate in themed take home projects. Their individuality is appreciated and their achievements are applauded.

Positive discipline methods are used so the children do not feel singled out or embarrassed. Preparing these young minds for kindergarten is a primary goal of the teachers as they encourage verbal skills, teach self-help skills and promote self-assurance.

Enrichment

In addition to a wonderful classroom experience, Hudson Memorial offers enrichment classes for children of different ages. Our Music and Movement classes are offered weekly to all classes. Children in the three and four-year-old classes attend a weekly Discovery class, which is a basic science and nature appreciation experience, and a weekly Spanish class. Children in the threes and fours preschool classes also attend a short Chapel service weekly, and parents are always welcome to join these services!
